The Easter Bunny

A guest at our home made the comment that we could converse about the non existence of the Easter bunny, Santa claus, or the tooth fairy in front of his young children because they didn't believe. Naturally, I had to think of all the implications of this decision as parents. Afterall, It's all American to believe in these characters. The only thing I came up with was, why didn't someone tell me that sooner. Wow! My life would have been so much easier. "We are decorating the tree and giving you a few gifts to celebrate Jesus' Birthday", "here is a dollar under your pillow because you lost a tooth", "here is an Easter basket because we are celebrating jesus rising from the dead". No melted Easter bunnies with distorted faces left in the car too long, no trying to find a hiding place for great big baskets, and yet a better place in the morning, no explanations of why the tooth fairy got too busy and couldn't stop by so she'll leave double the money tomorrow night, and no explaining why we have the same wrapping paper Santa uses. Not to mention, the huge let down when they find out these charaters they count on do not exist. Could it possibley make them wonder if another person they can't see, only believe in might one day not exist.
